Domain FAQ: Affordable Web Site Hosting
Some of our clients define themselves as "computer illiterate," but that didn't stop them from advertising their business online with Web Works! Our frequently asked questions cover everything from our affordable web site hosting to our contract (There is none!).
General Domain Questions:
A domain name, regulary called a “web address”, is a unique name used to identify your space on the internet. When people are looking for your website or searching for it, your domain name is what shows up. For example: www.exampledomain.com
All websites need a domain name because the domain name reserves a space for your website on the internet. This “space” is where we put your website so people can find it.
At Web Works, you always own your domain name. Even if we register a new domain for you, or transfer an existing domain to the Web Works account, you own all rights to your company domain name.
Yes, most of the time we transfer your domain and hosting over to our servers so that we can manage everything for you. But regardless of who or where you registered domain, we can use it as long as we have access to the account.
Our Domain Coordinator can assist you with accessing your account. Most of the time, we can find out what email the account is under and submit a password reset.
That's OK! We can look up your registrar and go from there.
Web Works handles everything so that you don't have to! This includes domain renewal which many people forget to do every year and thus, lose their domain name. Domain renewal and registration fee's are covered in your standard package at no additional cost to you.
Before making any changes to your current email accounts our domain coordinator will contact you to ensure that no emails are lost during the transfer. This generally includes scheduling a time when we can automatically copy your messages and folders into your new mailbox.
If you would like to keep your domain where it is, that is OK too! We can point the hosting to our servers.
Web Works will renew your domain every year and let it stay on our servers where we will also have your hosting set up.
Website hosting is management and maintenance of your website files so it can be accessible by the world. Without hosting, a website will not be viewable by the public.
I don't have a domain...
We can register a domain name for you. We can even make suggestions on what is best for your business and what will benefit you with search engines.
You can look up available domains by going to www.domainsbot.com. But remember, domain registration and renewals are included in our standard package so if you find a domain name you would like to register, let us know and we will take care of it for you!
All websites must have a domain name to be on the internet. It is a good thing and will help to direct customers to view your website. Without one your website would not be accessible to the public.
